9 Things You Must Absolutely Do To Having Winning Relationships At Work:

1. Act Like a Human

Organizations run by a closed group of executives hovering above in the "C - suite" are falling. Leading Without A Title, where everyone is a key player is the new way to win in business. This fresh method of leading means that leaders not only master the essential skills but also understand how to act human. You can't treat human beings like capital - you will lose your greatest talent.

Acting human engages people - human engagement facilitates others towards their brilliance. A refreshing burst of humanity at the office outlasts and outshines the paycheck, the office with the view, or driving the company car. As the lights go out on the stage of old-school leadership, acting human is your game-changing solution.

2. Be One of the Few Who Perfect the Endangered Craft

It's an amazing time to be alive. Revolutionary technological innovation to enhance our lives, freedom of choice to create the life you love, and the daily opportunity to choose from an endless list of beautiful rewards. Yet an insatiable hunger still lingers inside each one of us - the hunger to be heard. I'm talking about the transformative experience that happens when someone truly listens and totally gets where you are at. I'm talking about listening at the level you feel like the listener is hanging onto each one of your words like they are the most important words in the world.

The new leadership is all about relationships with people. And you can't relate without listening. It's impossible. Yet engaged listening is a craft rarely mastered by leaders. You can have the most competent leader in the world, but if he doesn't listen his leadership potential will go unrealized.

Feeding the hunger to be heard brings out the best in people. People will trust you, respect you and shatter their limitations for you when you give them the gift of listening.

3. Be Scarce

We tend to value that which is scarce. We put a premium on objects and experiences we believe will run out: a Limited edition Gucci Ronson sneaker, a two week showing of Michael Jackson's This Is It. Reserve wine. We are impacted and motivated most by that which we don't come across everyday or that which comes in a limited supply. If you are seeking to create long term loyalty in your business relationships, ask yourself what is noticeably scarce? Is it generosity? Authenticity? Encouragement? Spot the scarcity and rock it.

4. Be the Most Positive Person in the Room

Today there is perpetual buzz about the state of the economy, the shock of once-admired organizations collapsing before our eyes and the alarming daily rate of bankruptcy. Yes this is current reality however, focusing relentlessly on negativity is subscribing to failure.

Powerful leaders neutralize the infectious cycle of negativity; they deploy hope where it's seemingly forsaken. Enlisting yourself as the most positive person in the room breaks the binds of negativity. Change the music and people will either stop dancing or start dancing a new step. Either way, it will set a precedence - "negativity is what everybody else is doing - we are the organization that refuses its limitations." Utilize the power of positivity to step up and make today better than yesterday.

5. Go Bigger than Your Paycheck

Just when we thought Apple couldn't wow us anymore they showcased innovation with the iPad, the tablet computer. Amazing. You might not love the design but you have to love how Apple delivers surprise above and beyond. Have the audacity to go bigger than your role. If a colleague is struggling to meet a deadline or lagging in productivity, don't be the first to point out the deficiency, be the first to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to help out. Knock the status quo "it's not my job" to its knees and do more than you are paid for.

6. Be the Perfect Investment

When it comes to your relationships, be a dream investment: low cost with exceptional high return. Prove to be a no gossip, no games, no regrets, no maintenance investment of other people's time and focus. Manage yourself with others at the highest level possible - a.k.a with grace.

7. Get Naked in Your Conversations

Make your conversations count. Speak with candor. Brave the real issue. Say only that which is helpful: don't use your words to criticize or divide. Anybody can do that. Be radically honest, define reality. Trust is born out of the truth. Sloganeering and masking the truth breeds mistrust and disrespect. Go to the difficult truths and people will go the mile with you.

8. Get Famous for Reliability

Next time a teammate or department is unexpectedly riding the wild rapids, be the person out in the water risking the rapids with them. Become known for acts of reliability.

Every single person needs to take ownership of the organization's results. Everyone needs to take responsibility for what does or does not get accomplished in a day. Anyone can reach success if they consistently do the right things. Reliability, no matter what, is the right thing. Reliability translates into ownership and taking ownership is a way to present yourself as a leader.

9. Turn Everyone Into a Cover Story

Commit to noticing everyone. The young new associate in the elevator on Monday morning, the CFO's assistant, the receptionist, the customers, the interns... Remember everyone's contributions, what's important to her, what he does well, and what makes everyone smile. Everyone is worthy of being the next cover story and leaders show it.

In leadership,

Four Tips for Effective Leadership

Four Tips for Effective Leadership
by Agatha Gilmore

As companies continue to try to chart a course for 2010, there's no question that sound leadership will be one of the key ingredients for success.

"As economies change and accelerate, it becomes more and more important to be more effective in our leadership," said Kris Girrell, a senior partner with Camden Consulting Group.

However, leading in this new business environment requires a specific set of skills that may or may not be immediately apparent to today's executives. It's up to chief learning officers to provide effective leadership coaching. Girrell said there are four key behaviors that should be encouraged.

1. Live comfortably in the gray area.
"One of the key critical skills of senior leaders is the ability to deal with uncertainty," Girrell said. "When you talk about top management, they're really looking out into the fog. It's all ambiguous, and it's literally almost making it up day by day, trying to figure out what changes in the economy and changes in the wind and changes in the pleasures of the customer base are going to be.

"I think the second part of the answer is that we've gotten very technologically good in business, in our society; kids have more horsepower at their fingertips than most people ever imagined 15, 20, 30 years ago," he continued. "We have all this technology that can take care of the details of things and get the information, but what's not embedded in the technology is the ability to think, to have critical thought and analyze and extrapolate from the data. It becomes even more important because the acceleration that's provided by all the technical tools really requires a lot more skill on the top end from our executives on how to use [it]."

2. Be counterintuitive.
"What's logical to the executive, or what's logical to any of us, as the next thing to do comes from how we already do stuff. So it's more of the same," Girrell explained. "Doing more of the same only gets you more of the same results. A good coach really thinks and asks questions that push you beyond your known level into the unknown, and that's kind of an iffy territory. That's where coaching starts. They're outside of the box of thinking."

3. Learn by doing - and trust others to do so, too.
"What an executive often [experiences] is, 'I don't have anybody I can delegate this to; nobody really has the skill set that is required.' Well, in actuality, so many upper-level skills can only be developed by being in the position that requires that upper-level skill," Girrell said. "We forget that what develops us is hardship. If you look back on the real formative events of your life, the things that made you [great], it wasn't sitting on the beach sipping a mai tai. It was being in the cauldron. It was really being under fire and having to deal with some high-pressure situations. You've got to be comfortable with uncomfortable - and pushing a person to that level of discomfort."

4. Exercise soft skills.
"Much of what we do is in the realm not of skills, [but] in the realm of personality or spirituality or ethics. The only way to develop ethics is in these terrible dilemmas where you have to make a ruling, and there isn't a right or a wrong to the answer. The really hard skills don't have a right and wrong way to do them."

Ultimately, honing these four skills will help executives develop into effective, passionate leaders. After all, as Girrell put it, "We're going through a particularly turbulent time, and it's just vitally important that we have some leaders with integrity and effectiveness at the helm."

New Website Checklist

Many companies and small businesses have a Website that is reasonably non-functional. The Websites just do not attract visitors, let alone customers or bring about sales – and a fantastic marketing opportunity goes to waste. With Internet competition on the increase, more and more Websites are being left out in the cold.

So before creating a new Website, it is essential to do some preliminary research. Identifying the Target Market and the resulting Keyword Research are necessary precursors to Website implementation.

Keep in mind your objectives when creating a new Website:

The Website must be known to the search engines.

The Rankings must be good for selected Keyword phrases.

The Search Engine Results Page (SERP) must entice the visitor into visiting the Website.

The Marketing message in the Website must result in new customers.

Here is a checklist that covers the essential aspects of setting up a New Website. The comments are not complete (this would take pages and pages) – they are only mind joggers. You can find plenty of articles on the Internet which will supply in depth details:

Website Name

Use Words in the URL relating to the content, so that visitors can easily remember the URL.

Website Hosting

Choose a Website host that offers reliable and personal service, with minimal downtime. The software available must be flexible enough to allow continuous Website Optimisation.

Demographics

It is imperative to select your target market before a start on the Website build is made. You must know the age group, educational level, technical knowledge and degree of sophistication of your target audience. Identifying the target market goes hand in hand with Keyword research. You cannot optimise Keywords without knowing the target market.

Keyword Research

Keyword Research is needed from the start as it affects the content and every aspect of the Website. Each Web page must incorporate targeted Keyword Phrases.

Website Content

Select page topics and create the write-up. The write-up must stick to the topic and incorporate the Keyword Phrases selected for the topic. The Website must be friendly and direct. The Website must be professional.

Density Analysis

Originally SEO involved making sure that selected Keywords had a Density of 5%. Nowadays this will be regarded as Keyword stuffing. A Density analysis is still of value - check to see if a Keyword or Keyword phrase has been used too frequently (or too infrequently). Use synonyms to avoid any problems and improve the chances of a Search hit.

The Opposition

Do a search using your Keywords, and check how the opposition is going, and what they are using to get better rankings. When the new Website is up and running, remember that the "Sandbox effect" will operative.

Contact Us page

The "Contact Us" page should (if it has not been done elsewhere) establish trust and credibility.

Graphics

Create a Company Logo, Images and Slideshows. A favicon.ico should be included with the Images. Make sure that the Company Logo has an explanatory ALT tag containing Keywords - it often appears in the SERP listing. Minimise Image sizes to improve response times.

The Meta Tags and Page Titles

The Keyword tags, Description tags and Page Titles must be optimally set. The resulting Search Engine Results Page (SERP) listing must be inviting.

Website Template

It is important that all the Web Pages are consistent, have the same look and feel, and are attractive. Create a Website Template that defines the layout, theme, style, colours and Fonts. A Website Template will also speed up development. An ASP.Net Master Page makes an ideal Template, and will ensure consistency between Web pages.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

CSS is also necessary for consistency between Web pages. Use CCS to ensure that Printing does not include superfluous text, and that the font is not too small.

Navigation

Choose the navigation style - vertical or horizontal are the alternatives. Also choose the style of the Menus and Sub Menus. Above all, page navigation must be simple and easy.

Website Statistics

Set up tracking statistics, or use Visual Basic and SQL Server to derive and store customised statistics.

Website Submissions

Submit the Website to the Search Engines and directories at the earliest moment, even if it is not complete. Submit the Website to any local directories.

Backlinks

Start submitting quality articles to submission Websites.

Intelligent Web Pages

Visual Basic.net can be used to vary Headings, Advertisements, Content and Images.

And finally ...

When the Website has been built, check that all the SEO Tips that you can find have been implemented. And keep checking on a regular basis. This is not a one-time task.

How to Start a SEO Campaign

Several small & mid size businesses contact us daily for SEO consultation and helping their websites rank well on search engines. One common question we always hear is:

Where and how do I start my SEO Campaign from?

We thought it would be a very good topic for our blog post & should help all our readers.

A couple of points to note before we start -

* We are assuming that you already have the domain name because finding a good domain name would be a separate topic of blog.
* This list is far from complete because there are still several other factors that affect your website position.

So, here are some of the most important steps that you can yourself take care of before going to any SEO company to manage your search engine marketing campaign.

1. Find your targeted keyword

The first and most important step is to determine what are the most important keywords for which you want your website to appear on search engines? You know your business more than anyone else. You know your target audience. So find out 10 phrases which you think that your prospective customers will search for.

It is much more complicated than it sounds. We just wrote about a simple tip on keyword research that a beginner should always do.

2. Set the title of your website pages right

After you have decided on your keywords, the next step is to set them up properly. The title of your web page is the very first thing that any search engine crawler will read and take as a factor to rank your website. Your homepage’s title should contain your targeted keyword. All the other pages of your website should have title related to the content of that respective page. For e.g., the title of the registration page should be “Registration”. Keep in mind that you are not promoting your “registration” page. The idea is to “set things right”.

3. Set up meta keywords and description

Though Google has said they do not read meta tags content but we still advise to put your targeted keywords in field and one line description of your website in field in your header tags. Many other search engines will still read them and Google won’t give you negative marks for that.

4. Unique content for the home page

Your website’s homepage should have a unique content describing your business. This introductory text should have the phrases that are in the title of the page. Experts say that you should use your targeted keyword 2-3 times in every 200 words so as to not get caught up for keyword stuffing. If possible, put your local business address and phone number on home page & contact us page to get noticed on “local business results” on Google.

5. Business Blog

Google loves to blog and so does the other search engines around. Having a business blog pays – and this is something you should always remember. Whatever business you have, you must write 1-2 blogs every week about your business. The articles can be about an industry news, a website update, a new recruit in your company – anything that relates in some way or the other to your business. It would be an icing on the cake, if you put these blogs on the homepage, just like what we have on Archsoft.

We recommend using wordpress because they are easy to set up and the come up with various SEO Plugins that help in optimizing your blog for search engine rankings.

6. Install traffic analyzer

Once your website is up, you would definitely want to monitor your traffic. Any analytics software will show you how many visitors come to your website daily, where are they coming from and which keywords do they use on search engines to get on to your website. These are the most important metrics.

We suggest using Google Analytics for 2 reasons -

1. It is free & provides everything you would want.
2. Our website discovery tool works very well with Google analytics to help you find the new keywords that bring you traffic. Read more about it on our previous blog post here.

7. Monitor your website rankings

* Of course you are just starting your campaign. You might not be in top 100 on Google but sooner or later if you do the right things at the right time, you will find yourself in top 10 for that elite group of your targeted keywords. We, at Archsoft, offer this service for free. You can register your website with your targeted keywords and we will monitor your rankings on daily basis. You can be rest assure to get notified by email as soon as your rank has changed for Google, Yahoo or Bing. This will even help you track the work done by whichever SEO company you have chosen for your campaign.

8. Setup business profiles on social media websites

Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Delicious are some of the buzz words today in social media industry. Setting up your business profile on these & similar websites are must for a starter. Maintaining & optimizing them is again a different topic of discussion about which we will soon post here.

We hope that you found this list as a good starting point to help you in setting up your SEO Campaign. We also advise our clients to educate themselves by spending 30 minutes daily in reading latest news in the SEO world. You may not be professionals but you sure don’t want to appear dumb when you talk to a SEO Company. Official blogs of Google, Bing, & Yahoo are good starting point but there are hundreds of freelance bloggers that can provide really valuable information as well. A few ones that we love

* http://www.seo-theory.com

Well, we have finished our part. Time for you now to add more points which you think would be useful for a beginner in the SEO world. If you like reading this post on the Archsoft Blog, do subscribe to our feed!
